Upcoming events

I’m doing some research for a Burning Man business (see my 1st posting) and they’re interested in doing events in the Los Angeles area would like to locate events that offer vendor booth space. Can anyone recommend any upcoming events in September and beyond or an event organizer?

Kind of a fucked proposition if you ask me. One of the key aspects of the event is the non-commercial aspect of it, and the idea that someone is setting up a business to specifically cater to and profit from burners and the Burning Man experience.... just seems wrong.

You should probably consider some re-wording of your posts, or at least seek out some legal advice regarding your use of the Burning Man name in your company's promotional efforts. With the direction you seem to be heading, you're likely to run up against the BM Org with regards to your using their name in promotional/organizational announcements.

It's too bad you feel that way but...it is how you feel. Burners, Ravers, clubbing attendees need to get their clothing from someplace and the costs to make it and let people know they do make it is not cheap. I can see your point in using the Burning Man name; I should have said something more like Burners. But I disagree with it being wrong to sell specifically to Burners or using the word I target them. I love working for them and I’ve had a lot of fun. I met some super nice people at the events I’ve been to and I don’t see how it can be wrong to make money doing something I love. Isn’t that what several people including artists promote – do what you love?

yeah, excuse me, but with ilanio wear advertising on just about every page of tribe, i think we're well beyond that point.

          Dana,

          >yeah, excuse me, but with ilanio wear advertising on just about every page of tribe, i think we're well beyond that point.

I think you are confusing things.... Illanio Wear is targeted advertising, the cost of YOUR using Tribe's List forum services for free. The advertisers PAY Tribe to scan our letters to each other, catagorizing the words in database and then Tribe points an appropriate advertiser at YOU. Its not the same subject. One subject is in the context of setting up a business inside of the Burner community which in part uses the media of the Tribe forums, another is the media provider, Tribe in this instance, advertising what ever they feel to anyone who uses their free services, not specifically to Burners, while Sierra N is advertising her goods to Burners while moving around and mingling within our community. There are several Burners who also make very nice Burner goods but I think they were Burners first and through time and people asking that they make things for them, it became a 'business' for them and for our community. Not the same as a Newbie popping into the scene, asking around for the "locations of the parties and Oh, I got blinkies for sale which I'll sell to you at the parties." Just a different energy. Is it wrong for Aquarians and Geminii's to do these type things?

          Trilo...I agree.

There are lots of commercial businesses making a ton of money on burningman every year. They just aren't targeting us specifically. U-Haul. RV America. Gas Stations (Saudi's, Hugo Chavez, Exxon, BP, George Bush! etc). REI/Sports Mart. Home Depot/Lowes. I forget which grocery market in downtown Reno many of us stop to load up on grub and water. Beer and liquor companies. Nalgene Bottles. Honda generators. etc etc etc. Those are just a few. We also have a whole community in SF and LA of clubs and parties generating money for people. Many DJ's get their name out by playing the playa. Just because we are anti-capitalist on the playa doesn't mean the party isn't a huge capitalist bonanza. Its funny how some burners feel weird being targeted specifically as a group yet partake in capitalism in their every day lives and even when preparing for the event. As for clothing/jewelry etc there is already an underground market for stuff all over the west coast in and out of the specific burner events. LA has art/craft fairs every weekend they just rotate which beaches they set up at.
